Gold Room

We call this room the Gold Room, because of its best-known feature. In 1908, while the house was being built, the Belmonts toured the building. When they got to this room, Mrs. Belmont stated that it wasn't interesting enough. Mr. Belmont spent $250,000 on gold leaf to gild all of the trim in the room. He also commissioned 10 painted panels of "the birds of paradise" by a French artist. |
