In this room we have displayed many rare and unique items. Probably one of the most outstanding pieces in the Temple is the Japanese four-fold teakwood screen, faced with hand-embroidered silk panels, depicting a royal hunting scene. It was a gift to Mr. Belmont from the Emperor of Japan, as a thank you gift for hosting his delegation on their official visit to Washington. It was presented by Viscount Ishii. The embroidery work is so fine that most people think it is a painting. You have to look very closely to see the stitches. |
