Service Dogs Committee
A mission with pawsibilities
The Mission Statement, of the Order of the Eastern Star, is to make a positive difference in the world with charitable works, lasting friendships and loving kindness to all mankind.
What a powerful statement!
In the 2009-2012 Triennial Session, Sister Rennie Often, MWGM and Brother Fred Clarke, MWGP had Service Dogs as their chosen charity during “The Nature of God’s Love around the World” Triennium. More than $1.4 million dollars was raised for Service Dogs during their Triennium.
At the “Hope for Tomorrow” 2012-2015 Triennial Session held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the members voted to make Service Dogs one of the primary recognizable flagship charities of the Order of the Eastern Star. Sister Marianne Shenefelt, MWGM and Brother Henry Martin, MWGP advanced the recognition of Service Dogs as our identifying charity with the paw print added to the then newly created OES marketing logo.
In most of our Jurisdictions great strides have been made with the adoption of Service Dogs as a Jurisdictional Grand Chapter Standing Committee. A video was created to help educate both the OES membership and general public about OES’s dedication to Service Dogs and the assistance these wonderful dogs provide to those that require their services.
Our Most Worthy Grand Matron, Sister Glenda Winchester and Most Worthy Grand Patron, Brother Lon Lowry, have given us the challenge in 2021–2024, of raising $1 per member for Service Dogs during their “Worldwide the Family of God Marches Together”, our 51st Triennium.
The Order of the Eastern Star continues to raise funds and awareness for Service Dogs worldwide, and to improve the lives of others less fortunate while witnessing the incredible work of these most welcomed and faithful companions.
